To bid a final farewell to Luigi Di Sarno, 52 years old, died of botulism poisoning after eating a sandwich on the Diamante seafront, there were family, friends and acquaintances, all united by a single demand: justice.

Di Sarno is one of the two victims of the botulism outbreak that broke out in recent days in Calabria, along with Tamara D'Acunto. Both had eaten sausage and broccoli rabe sandwiches purchased from a food truck. The Paola Prosecutor's Office is investigating a chain of responsibility involving ten people: the street vendor, three managers from the product manufacturers, and six doctors who treated the victims in health facilities in the Cosenza area.
The charges, of various kinds, range from manslaughter to negligent personal injury to trafficking in harmful food substances. While waiting for justice to take its course, the community mourns a loss that seems all the more unacceptable because it is linked to an everyday and harmless act like eating a sandwich.
