Napoli – Alex Meret confirms his calm and mature presence in the new Napoli squad. The goalkeeper from Friuli, fresh from his league debut win away to Sassuolo, spoke to Radio CRC, discussing a variety of topics: from living alongside Vanja Milinkovic-Savic to the team's growth, and the Azzurri's seasonal ambitions.
A duel between the posts, without controversy
Regarding the rivalry with the new arrival, Meret is clear: "I have a great relationship with Vanja, one of healthy competition. That's right: you have to work hard and be ready, regardless of who plays."
No hint of rivalry or tension: the Azzurri number one emphasizes how the daily comparison with the former Granata player is an additional motivation, with a view to always keeping the Azzurri's goal safe.
The new Napoli and the quickly found amalgamation
Many new faces arrived this summer, but Meret has no doubts: "The integration was easy, they arrived early and we had time to work together. We're a group of serious guys who want to do well: it will be easy for any other reinforcements to integrate as well." These words confirm the solidity of the dressing room, one of the strengths of Napoli, who were champions of Italy just two seasons ago.
Convincing debut in Reggio Emilia
The goalkeeper then looked back at the first day of the championship: "We started well, with a display of focus and sacrifice. We picked up where we left off, securing an important away win. Our attitude was excellent, and that made the difference."
Meret also cites tactical continuity: the same formation seen at the end of last season, with Jack (Raspadori) next to Lukaku, a sign of work that continues towards stability.
High ambitions, with humility
Objectives? "The bar must be set higher and higher, with humility and dedication. We have the qualities to try to win every game and reach the top of every competition." This is the voice of a group that, despite being renewed, doesn't want to set limits: the Scudetto, Coppa Italia, and Europa League are goals to be pursued without fear.
Silent but present leader
Finally, a word on his role in the locker room: "I definitely feel like one of the most experienced players; I know the club and the fans well. I try to be a point of reference for the new and young players.
I'm happy to have been here for so many years, I've always felt comfortable."
Meret, therefore, is not only the starting goalkeeper but also a silent pillar of a Napoli team that is restarting with new challenges and ambitions. Healthy competition with Milinkovic-Savic and the character of a developing group could be the key to rediscovering enthusiasm and continuity.
