Vico Equense – Security alert on Monti Lattari, where in recent days groups of stray dogs have attacked some hikers along the forest trails in the area.

The reports originated from some tourists who were surprised by the animals while walking along the paths that crisscross the Vico Equense area, an increasingly popular nature destination.

According to initial reports, in at least one case the attack caused bite wounds to a hiker, who was forced to seek medical attention.

Intervention in the area: five dogs captured, one mutilated

Following the reports, Carabinieri from the Vico Equense station responded to the scene, in collaboration with technicians from the ASL Napoli 3 Sud and municipal police officers. The joint effort led to the identification and recovery of five stray dogs.

Three of these were not microchipped, while a worrying case of ear mutilation was detected in one of the specimens, which is now being investigated to identify any possible culprits.

The animals have been entrusted to a specialized facility, where they will receive the necessary veterinary care before any rehoming or adoption procedures.

Stray animals, roads, and transportation: a meeting at the Prefecture on the future of Mount Faito.

The issue of stray animals was the focus of an institutional summit held today at the Palazzo di Governo, chaired by the Prefect of Naples, Michele di Bari, and attended by health authorities, representatives of the affected municipalities, the Metropolitan City, and the Campania Region.

"The presence of stray dogs and other abandoned animals has been repeatedly reported by residents and tourists," the prefect explained. "For this reason, we have decided to adopt joint measures with the local health authority (ASL) and local authorities to ensure the safety of both residents (about one hundred people) and the visitors who visit the area each year."

During the summit, roads and transport were also discussed, with a particular focus on the state of the access road to the Mount Faito, which will be subject to interventions to improve its passability.

Particular attention has been paid to the situation of the cable car, currently out of action following an accident in recent months. "We have confirmed the willingness of EAV, the Metropolitan City, and the Region," Di Bari added, "to strengthen alternative connections and ensure adequate public transport service."

The prefect finally assured that the issue of stray animals will remain under close observation, with targeted interventions to protect public safety without neglecting the well-being of the animals involved.
