Naples – An attempted carjacking turned into a thrilling chase through the heart of Naples, with a Carabinieri lieutenant at the center.

Awakened at dawn by the sound of his car's alarm, the officer didn't hesitate: he opened the window, spotted the criminal, and gave chase. The incident occurred in a city apartment building, when the car alarm shattered the silence of the night.

The Carabiniere , still in civilian clothes, ran down the stairs and started tracking down the fugitive. With the support of a State Police patrol car and several passersby, he caught up with the thief, identified as Andrea Celotto, a 48-year-old from Naples.

48-year-old Neapolitan Andrea Celotto was arrested

A few minutes later, a Carabinieri patrol from the Naples Central Operations Unit completed the operation, handcuffing the suspect. On Celotto, the Carabinieri found a pair of scissors used to pry open the door latch and the GPS unit removed from the dashboard.

The man will face charges of attempted aggravated theft and unjustified possession of offensive instruments. After his arrest, he was transferred to a holding cell pending trial.

The incident, which highlights the lieutenant's courage and promptness, underscores the effectiveness of the collaboration between law enforcement and citizens. Unfortunately, Naples' news is rife with car thefts that occur every day on city streets.

I agree with you, and it's important for law enforcement to work with citizens to ensure safety. However, not all thieves are caught, and this is a serious problem.

This episode was really interesting, but I wonder why cars are so easy to steal. More security measures should be in place to prevent incidents like this from happening again in the future.
