The first to be checked was a tavern, where the police seized 40 kilos of unfit products. The owner was fined €3 and suspended from business. A similar situation occurred at a nearby bar: here, the Carabinieri found 30 kilos of food without labels or certification. This too was closed and a hefty fine imposed.

The checks will continue throughout the summer, with patrols on the streets until the first light of dawn, when the city can catch its breath for a few hours before another nighttime assault.
