Naples – Even patience has its limits, even for those, like those with disabilities, who are forced to deal with obstacles and difficulties every day. And last night, at the emergency room of the CTO hospital in Naples, that limit was exceeded.
A 47-year-old wheelchair-bound woman, exasperated by the endless wait before being seen, decided to take justice into her own hands: she stationed herself at the entrance to the "code red" area, blocking access to doctors, nurses, and seriously ill patients. The standoff lasted over an hour, paralyzing the department's operations.
Eventually, the Carabinieri from the Capodimonte station intervened and reported the woman.

The gesture, formally unjustifiable, however, speaks of a profound distress: interminable waiting lists, overcrowded emergency rooms, and, during this summer period, staffing levels reduced to the bare minimum due to holidays.
A mix that turns access to care into a nerve-wracking marathon, especially for those with serious health problems or mobility difficulties.
And so, the paradox: in a place created to save lives, we end up exasperating the sick. Meanwhile, the patient has been reported, and waiting times —the real ones—remain a problem that no one seems to care about.

It's truly sad to see how disabled people are treated in hospitals. The woman did what she could, but more attention should be paid to these cases. The waiting lists are long, and it's unfair.
