Naples – A night of robberies in the Chiaia neighborhood, where a series of robberies using the "spaccata" technique targeted several nightlife venues. The State Police are investigating three incidents that occurred between Via Bisignano, Piazzetta Rodinò, and Via Riviera di Chiaia.

The first intervention by officers from the San Ferdinando Police Station took place on Via Bisignano, in the area known as the "baretti": unknown individuals smashed the window of a pizzeria and stole bottles of drinks.

Shortly afterward, in Piazzetta Rodinò, another shop window was smashed, again using the same method: bottles and food items were stolen from the shop, with the amount still being ascertained.

A third incident occurred on Via Riviera di Chiaia, where the window of a pizzeria was damaged and chipped, but nothing was taken.

Police investigators are now reconstructing the dynamics of the shots and verifying whether the three incidents are connected and attributable to the same hand.

The investigative hypothesis: a "splitting" gang

The State Police, investigating with officers from the San Ferdinando Police Station and the Flying Squad, have not ruled out the possibility that a gang specializing in break-ins may be behind the barrage of shots . The technique used—rapid, violent, and targeting small businesses—is reminiscent of other incidents reported in recent months in various city neighborhoods.

Investigators are analyzing footage from surveillance cameras in the area to reconstruct the movements of the perpetrators, who apparently operated with their faces covered and at night. It is suspected that the group may have struck several times, taking advantage of the relative calm of these summer weeks, when the city empties and security on the premises is relaxed.

The precedent of the break-ins in Naples

In recent years, Chiaia, along with the historic center and Vomero, has repeatedly been the scene of thefts using the same method: shop windows smashed in seconds with clubs or homemade battering rams, and easily stolen goods, from food to alcohol to clothing.

It's no coincidence that the Naples Police Headquarters has intensified evening and nighttime checks on the city's nightlife districts, seeking to prevent raids that, in addition to causing economic damage, spread a strong sense of insecurity among shopkeepers and residents.

A neighborhood under pressure

The context is also concerning: Chiaia, the heart of Neapolitan nightlife, remains one of the areas most affected by predatory crime. Many shopkeepers complain of feeling alone in the face of crime that, while less blatant than gang-related crime, strikes consistently and with organized violence.

Investigations are now aimed at determining whether a stable criminal network, dedicated to serial thefts and receiving stolen goods, is behind the latest spate of robberies. This investigation could expand to other neighborhoods in the city, where similar incidents have been reported in recent weeks.

This is all a bit worrying, because thefts continue to increase and shopkeepers are increasingly struggling. It's unclear why this gang, which continues to target nightlife hotspots, can't be stopped.
