Naples – An unpaid debt for a drug supply may be behind the double gunshot wounding of 25-year-old Ugo Cucarano.

It happened yesterday morning in Fuorigrotta, on Via Leopardi, where the young man, already known to law enforcement for a history of drug dealing, was hit by a bullet in the left arm.

The victim, who is in non-critical condition at San Paolo Hospital, told officers from the local police station and the Flying Squad that he was approached by a man riding a scooter, his face covered by a scarf. The man pulled out a gun and fired two shots, one of which struck the young man's arm.

According to initial reports, Cucarano was returning home when he was ambushed. After the shooting, the injured man was rescued by a passing motorist who took him to the emergency room, where doctors estimated he would recover in nearly 30 days.

The investigation, coordinated by the Police Headquarters, is focusing on petty crime and drug dealing. Investigators have not ruled out the possibility of revenge for an "unfinished business" related to the victim's illicit trafficking. The robbery hypothesis has been ruled out.

He had already been arrested in 2021 for drugs

Cucarano is no stranger to the Naples news. In 2021, he was arrested for possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking after a house search seized 34 grams of the drug, scales, and cash. A friend of his, who was just 18 at the time, was also charged.

In a previous incident in 2019, he even attempted to bribe the Carabinieri who had stopped him with 4 grams of weed and €2.900 in cash, offering the money in exchange for the return of the stolen goods and part of the drugs. He ended up in handcuffs for drug dealing and incitement to corruption.

Investigators are working to analyze footage from surveillance cameras in the area, hoping to identify the perpetrator of the shooting.

It's incredible how violent situations are always linked to drug trafficking. Ugo Cucarano seems to have a complicated life, and it's unclear whether the injury was due to a debt or something else. I hope the police can shed light on this matter.
