Naples – The manhunt that followed the spectacular robbery that took place on August 12 in the lobby of the Excelsior Hotel on the Via Partenope seafront has ended with the arrest of the second robber .
The State Police executed a detention order against a 23-year-old man, believed to be one of the two perpetrators of the robbery that rocked the neighborhood.
The chilling dynamics of the robbery
The incident, which left everyone on the edge of their seats, began outside the Excelsior Hotel . Two robbers, their faces covered by helmets and armed with pistols, confronted a Moroccan tourist.
After a brief struggle, the scene moved to the hotel lobby, where the tourist was robbed of a valuable Audemars Piguet watch, worth approximately 80 euros.
In a moment of chaos and terror, one of the attackers fired a gunshot that lodged in the ceiling, fortunately without injuring anyone. The victim, however, suffered blunt trauma and is expected to be out of action for ten days.
From hotel to supermarket: a crazy escalation
The gang's escape didn't stop at the waterfront. Aboard the same scooter, the two committed a second robbery in quick succession, targeting a supermarket on Corso Europa. There, they managed to steal the store's takings, amounting to €2.350, before fleeing.
The rapid investigation and the arrest of the first accomplice
The immediate investigation by the Flying Squad, coordinated by the Naples Public Prosecutor's Office, relied on witness statements and, above all, images from video surveillance cameras.
Thanks to this evidence, investigators gathered strong evidence of guilt and were able to track down the first accomplice, 26-year-old Giuseppe Ruggiero , originally from Pianura, just hours after the robbery. The man was apprehended, and his arrest was later confirmed.
Today's operation, with the arrest of the initially unaccounted-for 23-year-old, puts an end to the second robber's fugitive status. The two will face charges of conspiracy to commit multiple aggravated and repeated robbery, illegal possession of a firearm, and aggravated assault.
The arrest of the second robber is deeply thought-provoking news. While it's unfortunate that things like this happen, at least law enforcement is doing its job to ensure the safety of the public.
