Naples – After the final approval from the Superior Council of Public Works, the construction has officially started race for the realization of Line 10, the strategic project that will revolutionize mobility in the northern area of Naples, with an initial investment of 1,2 billion euros and a potential total value of approximately 3,1 billion.
The tender notice was published today in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU), launching a procedure that will conclude on November 3 with the submission of offers by potential tenderers.
The path and the financing
The line will connect the Afragola Alta Velocità station with the municipalities of Afragola, Casoria, and Casavatore, before entering the northeastern part of Naples, reaching Piazza Carlo III and, at a later stage, the Piazza Garibaldi area.
The funding already secured—€870 million from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) for Rapid Mass Transit and €330 million from the Campania Region through POR FESR 2021/27 funds—will cover the construction of the "fundamental" section: from Afragola to the Di Vittorio station in Naples, where a crucial interchange with Line 1 (currently being completed by EAV) is planned.
The tender, however, has already been structured to immediately include the complete extension. The goal is to secure the remaining funding, bringing the total investment to €3,1 billion, to extend the line both towards Piazza Principe Umberto (passing through Piazza Carlo III) and to ensure full integration with the Afragola High-Speed Station.
A project born from institutional synergy
“This is an important result, born from an intuition of the De Luca regional council and the fruit of the synergy between MIT, the Campania Region, the Municipality of Naples and EAV”, commented the president of EAV, Umberto De Gregorio.
De Gregorio emphasized the exceptional nature of the operation: "It is perhaps the largest tender, financially speaking, ever undertaken in Campania and among the most important in Italy after the Strait of Messina Bridge. It is being completed thanks to a great institutional synergy and the hard work of the men and women of EAV, whom I thank. The goal is to secure the contract by the end of 2025."
With the publication of the tender, the countdown officially begins for a long-awaited project, intended to quickly and sustainably connect a large portion of the northern hinterland to the Naples metro network, easing traffic congestion and improving the quality of transport for thousands of commuters.
