Nola – He showed up at someone's house elderly disabled man pretending to be a lawyer and collected watches and jewelry worth approximately €2.500, the result of a scam carried out using the "fake carabiniere" technique.
This morning the State Police arrested a 52-year-old man, in execution of a precautionary custody order issued by the investigating judge of Nola At the request of the Prosecutor's Office, the man is considered seriously suspected of conspiracy to commit aggravated fraud.
The incident dates back to February 26th. An accomplice, still being identified, had called the victim pretending to be a Carabinieri marshal, telling her that her daughter had caused a serious car accident.
According to the ploy, the young woman's arrest could only be avoided by delivering money or jewelry to the "injured" party, through a lawyer.
Shortly thereafter, the 52-year-old—disguised as the fake lawyer—showed up at the elderly man's door and collected the valuables. But the couple's caregiver, suspicious, recorded the moment of delivery, even partially capturing the scammer's face.
The investigations, coordinated by the Nola Public Prosecutor's Office and conducted by the Naples Flying Squad, allowed the suspect to be traced through the analysis of video surveillance images and photographic identification carried out by the victim.

I agree with you, it's really strange that no one noticed these things before, they should implement stricter controls to protect vulnerable people from these scammers who use such underhanded methods.
In this situation, it seems to me that there is too much negligence on the part of the authorities. It's incredible how someone can pass themselves off as a lawyer and defraud an elderly person so easily. More security is needed.
