Salerno – With the approach of the Ferragosto holiday and the resulting increase in tourism and consumption, the Salerno Financial Police have stepped up their efforts to combat economic crime throughout the province.
The operation, aimed at protecting the legal market, consumers, and Made in Italy products, has already produced significant results: over 21.000 unsafe products and approximately 2.800 counterfeit items were seized during a large-scale enforcement operation.
Specifically, the Guardia di Finanza explained in a statement, the recalled products included perfumes, cosmetics, toys, and watches that lacked the necessary consumer information and did not comply with the safety standards required by the Consumer Code. These items were often intended for children or for skin contact, posing potential risks to public health.
Equally effective was the enforcement of intellectual property rights, which led to the seizure of approximately 2.800 counterfeit items, including clothing, leather goods, and toys reproducing counterfeit brands. This is damaging not only to Italian companies, but also to consumers, deceived by low-cost, low-quality imitations.
Undeclared work and receipts: widespread investigations
The Guardia di Finanza operation also focused on compliance with labor and tax regulations. Specifically, targeted checks were conducted at commercial businesses and non-hotel accommodation facilities, a sector experiencing strong growth during the summer. The investigations uncovered 10 workers who were completely undeclared, lacking any social security or insurance coverage.
Added to these are numerous tax violations, including failure to issue receipts and bills, as well as cases of failure to install tax meters. These violations divert resources from the community and distort the rules of competition.
Strengthened controls in view of the summer peak
The Corps' activity, coordinated by the Salerno Provincial Command , will continue at an intensified pace in the coming days, with the aim of ensuring a Ferragosto holiday characterized by legality and safety, protecting both honest operators and citizens.
The police remind the public of the importance of collaboration on the part of consumers, who are invited to be wary of products sold at abnormal prices or without labelling, and to report any suspicious situations.
The message from the Guardia di Finanza is clear: protecting the legal market also requires thorough and constant controls, especially during periods of peak commercial activity.

This is an article that discusses matters that are important to our health and safety. But I wonder if these controls are truly effective. Sometimes it seems like there's too much to do and too few visible results.
