Salerno – A shadow of indignation and grief has fallen over the “San Giovanni di Dio e Ruggi d'Aragona” Hospital in Salerno.

General Manager Dr. Ciro Verdoliva has broken his silence on an incident that has shaken the hospital's foundations: thefts targeting patients, who are being raided precisely at their most vulnerable times.

In a message to employees, the CEO expressed deep regret, calling the incidents a “deep wound.”

"We're not talking about money or material things," Verdoliva writes, "but about objects that embody bonds, stories, and loves: wedding rings, necklaces, small mementos that have an inestimable value for our patients and their families." The Director offered his sincere apologies to the affected families, emphasizing the unacceptability of such gestures in a place that should be synonymous with care and protection.

The Director's indignation: "A shadow that weighs on us all."

Verdoliva's message is a true indictment of a conduct that not only harms victims but tarnishes the reputations of thousands of honest professionals.

“Knowing that someone, in the most fragile hour of life, could be deprived even of these intimate and precious possessions fills me with indignation and pain,” wrote the DG. While reiterating his confidence in the vast majority of the staff, he admitted that the mere possibility of the name of “ Ruggi ” being associated with such a vile act is unacceptable.

For the Director, the hospital is not just a facility, but a place where people entrust not only their health, but also their dignity and trust. Preserving these values is "an integral part of our mission."

A call for vigilance: "Each of our pride is a powerful weapon."

While awaiting concrete measures to strengthen safety, Verdoliva issued a direct appeal to all employees. He asked them to be vigilant, to keep "a sharp eye," and to immediately report anything suspicious or out of place. He described staff conscience and pride as "a very powerful weapon" against degradation.

The goal is clear: to prevent the image of the "Ruggi" from being compromised by those who betray its dignity and respect. Management is committed to not tolerating dishonorable behavior, confident that, with everyone's commitment, the hospital will demonstrate that it is, and will remain, a true "home of care and humanity."
