Montecorvino Pugliano – Another day, another workplace accident. Three workers—aged 29, 42, and 50—were injured today while performing maintenance on an advertising sign in Montecorvino Pugliano, in the Salerno area.
The lifting platform they were working on, just 1,5 meters above the ground, suddenly overturned, throwing them to the ground.
Help arrived immediately: 118 paramedics transported the three to the hospital with prognosis of 10, 20, and 30 days, respectively. Carabinieri from the Battipaglia Company were also on site , busy reconstructing the accident's dynamics.
The summer of accidents
Today's accident is just the latest in a long series of accidents that have affected this summer, especially those working at height with hoists and lifting platforms.
Every accident raises the same questions: Were the safety devices up to standard?
Had the workers received adequate training?
Why do these accidents continue to occur despite increasingly stringent regulations?
"Many of these accidents could be avoided with regular equipment maintenance and more rigorous training," explains Marco Rossi, an expert in workplace safety. "The problem is that we often work in a rush, cutting time, and compromising on safety."
As the investigation continues, today's three workers will face weeks of recovery. Their stories add to the grim toll of a summer that is shaping up to be the worst in recent years for workplace accidents in Campania.
The question that remains is: when will we truly start putting safety first? Or will we have to continue counting the victims and injuries, one after another?
