A 37-year-old man was reported by the Carabinieri for failure to provide assistance and negligent injury after hitting a 56-year-old woman of Ukrainian origin and driving away without providing assistance.
The accident occurred yesterday evening in Vico Palumbo, in San Felice a Cancello , in the Caserta area. The man, driving a Jeep Compass, hit the pedestrian while passing in the area.
After the impact, he got out of the vehicle, but seeing the woman lying on the ground, he got back in and fled. The 56-year-old woman, rescued by 118 thanks to a tip from passersby, was taken to Caserta Hospital, where she was treated and released with a 10-day prognosis.
Footage from public and private surveillance cameras, along with testimonies from bystanders, allowed the Carabinieri at the Cancello station to identify the perpetrator. Realizing he had no escape, the 37-year-old then voluntarily turned himself in to the police.
This is a truly terrible thing happening around here. People should be more responsible and help those in need, instead of running away. I hope this man understands the gravity of his actions and repents.
