Naples – Umbrellas at the ready and extreme caution is advised: starting tomorrow, Campania will once again be gripped by severe weather.
The regional Civil Protection has issued a yellow alert valid for 24 hours, starting from midnight today until 23:59 PM on Thursday, August 21st.
The forecast calls for sudden rain and severe, albeit short-lived, thunderstorms , with possible hail, lightning, and gusty winds. Much of the region will be affected, except for the Alta Irpinia and Sannio areas and the Tanagro river basin.
There are fears that the rainfall could cause further disruption and dangerous situations. The Civil Protection Department has warned of widespread hydrogeological risk: possible flooding in urban centers, roads transformed into rivers of water, falling rocks from rock faces, and landslides in the most exposed areas.
Gusts of wind could also damage roofs and masts, while rough seas will make coastal navigation difficult.
The mayors of Campania's municipalities have been asked to activate their Municipal Operations Centers and implement the necessary measures to prevent critical issues, from checking the stability of public green spaces to monitoring areas at risk of landslides.
The population is advised to exercise caution when traveling, especially in areas previously affected by storms and landslides.
After torrential rains that caused disruption and flooding in several municipalities in the region in recent weeks, yet another warning confirms a summer marked by atmospheric instability and alternating scorching heat and sudden extreme weather events.
