Santa Maria Capua Vetere – A serious attempted drug dealing incident has rocked the prison in Santa Maria Capua Vetere, in the province of Caserta, where a mother and her pregnant daughter were arrested for attempting to smuggle 300 grams of hashish into the facility.
The two women, who had presented themselves for an interview with an inmate, were discovered thanks to the unerring nose of the drug-sniffing dog Airon, from the Avellino canine unit . The operation, conducted professionally by prison police officers, led to the immediate arrest of the two protagonists.
The mother was transferred to prison, while her daughter, due to her pregnancy, was placed under house arrest. The gravity of the act, already significant in a prison context, takes on even more disturbing implications given the pregnant daughter's condition, a detail that underscores the recklessness of the act.
Prison police union representatives Ciro Auricchio (USPP regional secretary) and Giuseppe Moretti (USPP national president) praised the work of the officers and their dog, Airon, whom they described as "a nightmare for drug dealers." In a joint statement, the two emphasized the professionalism of the prison police force, which, despite a 70-man shortage and the challenges of the summer vacation plan, continues to ensure order and safety within the prison.
"This brilliant operation demonstrates the high level of specialization and self-sacrifice of our officers," they stated. The incident raises questions about the ease with which criminals attempt to infiltrate prison facilities, even exploiting sensitive situations such as pregnancy.
The case, which involved two women linked by family ties, highlights the need for stronger controls and the crucial role of canine units in combating drug trafficking within prisons.

This is a truly worrying situation; women shouldn't be protected this way, especially when they're pregnant. Controls must be strengthened, and we can't allow such practices that undermine the system.
