Procida – The botulism alert is also being felt on the island of Procida. In a joint operation, the Local Police and the Port Authority seized 19 jars of sea urchins , likely destined for the island's restaurants.
The goods, lacking any traceability and stored in precarious hygienic conditions, were immediately destroyed, averting a potential risk to public health.
The dynamics of the operation
The raid began this morning when a local police patrol, carrying out checks at the port, noticed a man acting suspiciously on Via Roma. The inspection revealed that the person was transporting cans of sea urchins in complete violation of health and hygiene regulations.
Since the fish were marine fauna, the Port Authority was called in . The joint operation resulted in the seizure of approximately eight kilos of the product, along with a €1.500 administrative fine.
The destruction of the goods, as established by the authorities, was made necessary precisely because of the lack of traceability and the conditions that made them unfit for human consumption.

The operation carried out by the police and the coastguard was very important in safeguarding the health of the island's residents. I hope there will be more checks in the future to prevent similar problems.
