REGGIO EMILIA – The Reggio Emilia area remains central to FER's strategy. The Emilia-Romagna Railways company itself reiterates this, highlighting the significant infrastructure investments underway as well as positive operating data. On the Reggio-Guastalla line, for example, punctuality reached 2025% in the second quarter of 93,2, exceeding the regional average. This figure adds to already completed projects, such as the €15 million redevelopment of the Guastalla station, now equipped with new platforms, an underpass, a computerized signaling system, and improved safety and accessibility standards. Finally, on the Reggio-Guastalla line, level crossing systems have been reconfigured to speed up service.
On the Reggio-Ciano line, FER has intervened to increase the safety and reliability of the infrastructure. Specifically, the Bivio Barco level crossing on the provincial road, a particularly critical crossing for both rail and vehicle traffic, has been completely rebuilt (an investment of €300.000). Rails and sleepers on the bridges spanning the Crostolo and Modolena streams have also been replaced (an investment of €700.000), and extraordinary maintenance work on the overhead contact line is underway. Major work has also been carried out on the Reggio- Sassuolo line , starting with the bridge in Veggia, with the leveling of the railway section and the replacement of damaged wooden sleepers. In Sassuolo Radici, the sleepers on the bridge on Via Regina Pacis have been replaced. Extraordinary maintenance of the overhead contact line is also underway on this line.
Meanwhile, the implementation of the "Safe Stations" project, launched in Brescello, continues. This project includes improved accessibility to stations and railway areas, video surveillance, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, renovated waiting rooms, and emergency buttons connected to a control room with direct access to law enforcement. A €50.000 budget has been allocated for this initial project. Furthermore, two photovoltaic parks at the Brescello and Guastalla stations are currently being tendered—projects valued at approximately €5,90 million—which represent a first example of integrating traditional and renewable energy sources for rail service. Among the completed projects is the renovation of the Crostolo bridge between Guastalla and Gualtieri, required for the passage of the new power line. The bridge was upgraded in just two months. Specifically, the vertical clearance was increased to XNUMX meters, the steel bracing was reduced, and the overall stability of the structure was improved.
Finally, there are numerous active construction sites on other regional routes, worth hundreds of millions, with which Fer "confirms its commitment to safe, efficient, and constantly evolving regional mobility, with particular attention to the local areas and the quality of service for citizens," the company concludes.

The Reggio Emilia area is very important for railways, but I'm not sure what the real benefits are for passengers. There's a lot of investment, but I hope it ultimately yields concrete results, not just promises.
