Villa Literno – A cigarette as bait, a bottle as a weapon, and a week's worth of sweat stolen in a minute. This is the story of a brutal robbery committed last night, shortly after 22.30:XNUMX PM, in Piazza Garibaldi in Villa Literno, in the Caserta area.
The victim is a 37-year-old Tunisian farm worker , returning from a day's work. His attackers, two of his compatriots, approached him with the excuse of asking for some tobacco.
In an instant, the scene escalated into violence: one of the two grabbed a bottle and hit him on the head with such force that he suffered a deep wound. While he was dazed and bleeding, they searched his pants pockets, stealing everything: €420.
Man stabbed and slashed with a bottle and robbed of 420 euros
For that boy, they weren't just banknotes. They were the wages of a whole week spent picking tomatoes under the sun, sweat and toil transformed into cash.
"They took everything from me," he repeated, tearfully and in shock, to the Carabinieri from the Villa Literno station, who had arrived following his cries for help. The officers, passing by for a territory check, found the man with an obvious head wound and in a state of agitation.
His instructions were precise and invaluable. After having him taken to the emergency room at the Pineta Grande Clinic in Castel Volturno—where doctors had to apply two stitches above his right eye and treat a lip injury—the Carabinieri immediately launched a search.
A few hundred meters from the scene of the ambush, they spotted two men matching the call. Upon seeing their uniforms, the two fled. One of them, taking advantage of the darkness, managed to slip away into the alleys. The other, a 46-year-old Tunisian man with no fixed address and no permanent residence, was caught and arrested.
After the victim filed a complaint, the police arrested the 46-year-old for robbery. The man, already known for his illegal immigration status in Italy, was taken to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison.
The Carabinieri 's investigation is now focused on giving a name and face to the accomplice, still at large, and restoring to the laborer what remains of a week's work that has been shattered like a bottle.
