Naples – A large-scale seizure of cosmetics potentially harmful to public health has been made in the Vesuvian area. Carabinieri officers from the Naples NAS, conducting targeted checks to ensure consumer safety, discovered a business selling products containing banned substances.

The incriminated substance

During the inspection, the military found numerous packages of semi-permanent nail gel containing “trimethylbenzoyl diphenylphosphine oxide (TPO),” a substance banned by the European Union because it is classified as carcinogenic, mutagenic, and reprotoxic (toxic to reproduction).

Its presence in cosmetic products , explain the Carabinieri, represents a serious risk not only for those who use them but also for professionals in the beauty sector.

Seizure and denunciation

Upon completion of the investigation, the police seized approximately 800 packages of illegal cosmetics, with an estimated street value of €6.000. At the same time, the business owner was reported to the competent judicial authorities for selling items dangerous to public health.

The commitment of the NAS

The seizure is part of the ongoing efforts of the Carabinieri Anti-Adulteration and Health Unit, who have been intensifying controls in the cosmetics and personal care sector for some time. The aim of these operations is to prevent the distribution of products that do not comply with European regulations, thus protecting consumers and beauty professionals.
