Mondragone – A new environmental wound has been added to the already compromised territory of the so-called Land of Fires. This afternoon, the Carabinieri Carabinieri from the Mondragone Territorial Unit discovered a large illegal landfill in Pescopagano, along Via Lista. The area, covering approximately 100 square meters, was immediately seized.
Waste of all kinds in the countryside
The military inspection revealed a scene of degradation: piles of rusty refrigerators, worn tires, mattresses, sofas, dismantled furniture, and construction debris abandoned without any control.
Un deposit open-air, built on the edge of the road, in contempt of environmental regulations and with potential risks to the health of citizens and the local ecosystem.

Custody entrusted to the Municipality
Following the seizure, the Carabinieri began land registry investigations to identify the owners of the land. Meanwhile, judicial custody of the site has been entrusted to the mayor of Mondragone, who will now be responsible for securing and subsequently reclaiming the area.
A phenomenon that does not stop
The operation is part of the monitoring and prevention efforts carried out by law enforcement against illegal waste disposal, a scourge that has plagued the provinces of Naples and Caserta for years. This phenomenon, in addition to threatening the environment and public health, fuels parallel economic networks where organized crime thrives.
Investigators are now trying to reconstruct the illegal waste disposal chain and identify any potential culprits. The goal is to track down not only the actual perpetrators of the dumping, but also the channels through which the waste is collected and dumped, an illicit business that continues to be one of the region's major emergencies.

I read the article, and it seems like a very dire situation. There's too much waste lying around, and the environmental problems aren't going away. Let's hope the authorities take serious measures to effectively resolve this issue.
