Avellino – A ton of expired sweets ready for distribution was seized by the Carabinieri of the Avellino Forestry Unit during a check at a local confectionery company.
The military discovered that numerous pastry products were already past their expiration date and were therefore no longer suitable for sale or consumption.
The inspection also revealed serious hygiene and sanitation deficiencies: the processing facilities were in precarious condition, with workbenches and equipment not meeting required standards. For this reason, the Carabinieri imposed urgent sanitation measures and the immediate restoration of minimum food safety standards.
The company owner was fined €3.300, and the goods were seized pending further action from the competent authority.

According to investigators, the sale of expired products is not only an administrative violation, but also poses a concrete risk to public health. In this specific case, the sweets could have ended up on the local market, with potentially serious consequences, especially for vulnerable consumers such as children and the elderly.
