Castellammare – Thieves certainly have no shortage of imagination, let alone those in Naples and its province. And so it happens that a full-blown robbery is reported, with a detail that even shocked the Carabinieri: Gigi D'Alessio's face was used as a disguise to fool the surveillance cameras.
The one who ended up in handcuffs was Andrea Izzo, a 26 year old from Castellammare di Stabia and a professional boxer, arrested after a chase and a scuffle with the soldiers of the mobile radio section.
The scene unfolds at night, on Via Motta Casa dei Viri. A patrol car spots a suspicious car: it's stolen, with a fake license plate. Izzo is behind the wheel, wearing a balaclava that immediately betrays his intentions. A chase ensues through the city streets until reaching Via Cupa Varano, where the chase ends.
The 26-year-old attempted to flee on foot, but when he was caught, he reacted by violently punching the officers, taking advantage of his experience as an athlete.

He also had a dedication from Gigi D'Alessio in the car
Inside the stolen Jeep, the soldiers found burglary tools and three masks depicting the face of Gigi D'AlessioA surreal detail: on the back of the masks there were even autographed dedications from the singer, addressed to Izzo as a fan during a concert.
According to investigators, those very masks were used to camouflage themselves during the robberies, taking advantage of the disorientating effect on security cameras.
Izzo was arrested on charges of money laundering, receiving stolen goods, resisting arrest, and assaulting a public official. After spending the night in custody, he is now awaiting trial. The stolen car has been returned to its owner.
A story that combines crime and paradox: the face of a singer who is a symbol of Neapolitan music, unwittingly caught in a criminal scheme. And for Gigi D'Alessio, another story to tell his family.

It's incredible how some thieves can be so imaginative, but using Gigi D'Alessio's face as a disguise is truly surreal. I don't know whether to laugh or cry, but it's certainly a very strange situation.
The news is truly bizarre; the use of masks strikes me as an unusual strategy. I wonder if there are other people involved in this strange affair and what the legal consequences might be for Izzo.
I never thought a thief would wear the mask of a famous singer. But maybe it's just a way to confuse the cameras and avoid being recognized by the police. I hope this is a lesson for others.
