Giugliano – An illegal mechanical and body shop was discovered by Carabinieri officers from the Varcaturo station in Giugliano, Campania, during a joint operation with the Pozzuoli Forestry Corps, as part of checks to combat environmental crimes in the so-called "Land of Fires."
A 60-year-old local man was reported for illegal waste management and illegal activity. The investigation, conducted in an area of approximately 750 square meters used as a garage, uncovered an uncontrolled dump of waste, including hazardous materials.
Among the items recovered were a disused jet ski, a car undergoing repairs, and six abandoned vehicles, some of which contained additional waste. The entire area was seized for investigation. The 60-year-old, who operated the workshop without a permit, was fined €9.500.
The identified waste was handed over to the Giugliano recycling center for proper disposal, in accordance with environmental regulations. This operation is part of a broader local monitoring effort to combat illegal waste disposal, which continues to plague the Varcaturo area and the "Land of Fires" region.
The Carabinieri are continuing their investigations to verify any further responsibilities.
It's incredible how there are still people running businesses without any authorization. The waste situation in the Land of Fires is truly worrying, and greater oversight by the relevant authorities is needed to prevent similar situations.
