Mariglianella – It was supposed to be a carefree Saturday, amid lights, stalls, and live music for the celebrations in honor of Saint John the Evangelist. Instead, the evening of the patronal feast of Mariglianella, a small town north of the metropolitan city of Naples, turned into a potentially bloody theater.
While the crowd in the square awaited the concert, screams suddenly tore through the air on Via Napoli. Two boys, both just 14, came to blows. One of them, in a fit of rage, pulled out a butterfly knife, ready to stab his opponent. To prevent further harm, the police, already present for the public order services planned for the celebrations.
The young man was immediately stopped, disarmed and searched.
