An illegal dog shelter, located in a public area on Corso Secondigliano, was discovered and seized by Naples Local Police following a joint raid involving the Secondigliano and Building and Heritage Protection units, with the support of the Veterinary and Animal Welfare, Mental Health, and Social Services departments, as well as the technical assistance of ABC Napoli and the E-distribuzione company.
In a municipal garden, a structure measuring approximately twenty square meters had been constructed, divided into five pens and used as a dog shelter. During their inspection, officers found numerous animals, two of which had mutilated ears, which also led to suspicions of animal abuse.
The entire area has been seized, and the person responsible is charged with crimes ranging from illegal occupation of municipal land to construction without a permit, and even animal cruelty. The incident sheds a disturbing light on the degraded conditions in which many dogs, removed from the rules and regulations, live, and raises the issue of control over public spaces.
