Moments of terror this morning in front of the Alessandro Volta Industrial Technical Institute in Piazza Santa Maria della Fede, in the heart of NapoliShortly before entering class, an 18-year-old was hit on the head with a hammer by a peer, his former classmate until last year.
According to what was reconstructed by Carabinieri of the company Napoli Stella, the attacker – a 17-year-old boy – is said to have waited for the victim in front of the school gates, violently attacking her.
The alarm was raised immediately: the police began searching for the young man, first near the train station, then at his home, where he had since returned. The hammer used in the attack was found and seized in the minor's backpack.
The boy was arrested on charges of attempted murder, by order of the Naples Juvenile Prosecutor's Office, and transferred to the Colli Aminei reception center. The victim, who had a head injury, was rushed to Pellegrini Hospital with a yellow code: his condition is not serious, but his injuries required immediate medical attention.

Knives, sticks, and now even hammers: episodes like this reveal a profound sense of unease, which explodes in extreme acts even among very young boys. school, which should be a place of growth and comparison, becomes the scene of settling scores and acts of oppression.
Educators and psychologists emphasize that these outbursts of violence can hide loneliness, repressed anger, family difficulties, and the search for recognition through fear and oppression. This is fertile ground that risks turning arguments or old grudges into brutal attacks.
The case of Piazza Santa Maria della Fede highlights the urgent need for targeted interventions: on the one hand, strengthening controls and security in institutions, on the other, the need for educational programs capable of addressing distress and offering children alternative tools for dealing with conflict.
Because, as today's story demonstrates, it takes very little—a persistent argument, an impulsive gesture—to transform a school morning into a drama that forever changes the lives of two families and an entire school community.

This episode is worrying and makes us reflect on the importance of education among young people. I hope this problem is raised, because every time something so violent happens, we have to ask ourselves what's wrong.
