Naples – Not just news. Scampia chooses to write its story through colors, words, and music. It returns to speak, to think, and to make itself heard with "Scampia Project – A Vele spiegate," a collective cultural project scheduled for September 26–28, 2025, in the foyer of the Fabrizio de André Auditorium. The goal is ambitious and clear: to restore voice, imagination, and a future to one of Naples' most iconic landmarks, starting with its youngest residents.
The modular and participatory initiative is an integral part of the Naples 2500 Celebrations programme, which involves the entire metropolitan area at the behest of Mayor Gaetano Manfredi. Created with the support of the Municipality and the Metropolitan City, it boasts the artistic direction of Laura Valente and aims to create a space for expression to showcase local talent, from writers to street artists, from rappers to musicians.
The workshops: storytelling, rap, street art and recycled music
The heart of the project beats in the workshops, dedicated primarily to children and young people. Rather than lectures, they share experiences and creative processes. Established artists will share their skills with the community, engaging in equal dialogue.
Four creative modules will alternate, coordinated by the writer and musician Daniele Sanzone:
“Scampia sono io”: a storytelling workshop led by Sanzone, where children will work on a choral text, a mosaic of voices that will be recited at the final event.
“Vele di rap”: hosted by rapper PeppOh, will guide young people in writing and performing a collective track, exploring rap as a tool for social criticism and poetry.
“Waves of Color”: Street artist Trisha Palma will give participants the power to imagine and redesign their urban spaces through painting.
“What Chaos Sounds Like”: Musician Maurizio Capone will demonstrate how to create melodies with recycled materials, transforming waste into harmony.
The final show and the special project on the Vela Celeste
On Sunday, September 28th, starting at 6:00 PM, the three-day program will culminate in a final show. Children, teens, and artists will take to the stage together for a collective "restitution" of words, sounds, and colors. Accompanying the performances will be the Scampia rock band 'A67, performing an acoustic version.
The project also has a broader scope, tied to the neighborhood's urban future. "A Vele spiegate" includes "Semina," the first chapter of a participatory process that follows the work initiated by the Municipality with the design studio CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati to reimagine the Vela Celeste. In this special module, curated by the Department of Urban Planning and the CRA team, the children of Scampia will be asked to imagine the future of their neighborhood, including through the use of Artificial Intelligence tools, thus combining poetic vision and technological innovation.
Sustainability and community: the common thread of the event
Particular attention will be paid to environmental sustainability. The entire event will be centered around reuse: organic paints, musical instruments made from discarded objects, and eco-friendly panels. The documentary narrative of the initiative will be directed by Davide Scognamiglio of Manovalanza, capturing the gestures and voices of this cultural rebirth in the collective memory.
