Avella – A violent brawl broke out in the heart of the traditional patronal festival in honor of San Sebastiano and Santa Maria delle Grazie in Avella. The evening of music and celebrations turned into a brawl shortly after midnight on Friday, inside a venue in Piazza Umberto I, just as a musical performance was taking place in the square.
According to an initial reconstruction by the Carabinieri, the fight began with a trivial disagreement, which quickly escalated into a general brawl. During the scuffle, a man was injured in the abdomen. Emergency services immediately responded to the scene, providing first aid to the victim and transporting him to the Nola hospital. His condition was not deemed serious.
Officers from the Avella Carabinieri Station, coordinated by the Baiano Company Command, intervened to break up the fight and began an investigation to reconstruct the exact circumstances and identify those responsible. After completing their investigations and interviewing several witnesses, the Carabinieri charged two local men, a thirty-year-old and a forty-year-old, with brawling.
A knife, which is presumed to have been the weapon used in the attack, was also found and seized inside the premises. Investigations are ongoing to determine who is responsible and the full details of the incident.
The episode has cast a shadow over the historic patronal festival, an event eagerly awaited by the local community and which every year attracts numerous faithful and visitors.
