Naples – It was a busy evening at Capodichino International Airport, where local police intensified checks on taxis and chauffeur-driven vehicles to combat irregularities in non-scheduled public transportation. The operation, conducted by officers from the Airport Operations Unit, scrutinized 39 vehicles: 31 taxis and 8 chauffeur-driven rentals.
The results speak for themselves: 11 administrative fines and two licenses revoked on the spot.
The most frequent violations involve picking up passengers outside of authorized areas: six taxi drivers were fined for picking up passengers in unauthorized areas, a practice that creates traffic chaos and unfair competition. Two drivers were also caught working off-shift, a violation that resulted in the immediate revocation of their licenses.
Other cases highlighted less obvious but still serious shortcomings: a taxi driver failed to issue a receipt at the start of the ride, another was driving with an expired KB professional license, while an NCC was driving with a provisional permit that was no longer valid.
The discovered irregularities have been forwarded to the relevant authorities, who will assess further action. For more serious violations, such as unauthorized operation of the business, the law provides for license suspension from 15 days to 6 months.
This is not an isolated incident: checks on taxis and chauffeur-driven vehicles at Capodichino are increasing, driven by growing reports from travelers, often misled by unfair offers or improper behavior. The Local Police's stated goal is to ensure transparency and safety at one of the city's most sensitive intersections, a point of arrival and departure for thousands of tourists every day.
