In Afragola , Naples, the first day of school brings a heartbreaking silence for Marcello Carbonaro. His daughter Martina, killed at just 14 years old last May, will never return to school. Speaking to " Storie Italiane" on Rai1, her father recounts his grief and disbelief at the tragedy that has struck his family.
Martina was hit in the head with a rock, four times, by her ex-boyfriend Alessio, whom Marcello called "a monster, worse than Satan." "It's been almost four months ," she confesses, " but the longer I go on, the more the pain grows. Until recently, I could see her right in front of me, and now she's gone. I trusted that man, but he broke my soul."
The father recalls the moments before the tragedy and the relationship of trust with the boy's family: "I grew up with that family; I knew my grandmother and grandfather. When my daughter met him, I thought he was calm. I told her to be careful, but he dragged her into this tragedy." Carbonaro also denounces the lack of apology and reconciliation: "The family doesn't threaten us, but they provoke us. No one ever came to the house. The boy's grandmother watched me grow up, and there was no humanity."

Marcello's story is truly tragic and sobering. It's incredible how such events can happen in a family. I hope justice is served, but the pain will remain forever.
