CASERTA – Twenty new electric buses have joined the Air Campania fleet . The delivery took place this morning at the operational headquarters in Caserta, in the presence of Campania Region President Vincenzo De Luca, Transport Commission Chairman Luca Cascone, and Sole Director Anthony Acconcia. The vehicles, supplied by ACaMIR, will soon be in service on urban routes in the Caserta area and mark a further step toward more sustainable and efficient mobility.
These are eight-meter-long Karsan e-Atak buses, with a low floor and a capacity of up to fifty passengers. Powered by a 230 kW electric motor and 220 kWh batteries, they can travel approximately 300 kilometers on a single charge, which can be completed in three to five hours. The buses are equipped with security cameras, passenger counting systems, real-time monitoring, and infomobility to update residents on schedules.
For Anthony Acconcia, this result confirms Air Campania's transformation into a regional player: "Over the last four years, we've renewed 60% of our fleet, investing over €100 million. The average age of our vehicles is now lower than the national average. With these new electric buses, we're taking another step toward ecological transition and an increasingly high-quality service."
The green transition is accompanied by digital innovation. A new app will be available starting October, allowing users to track bus movements in real time, while smart bus stops, already being tested in Caserta and Avellino, will be extended throughout the region thanks to a €25 million regional investment. "Today," Acconcia concluded, "we are demonstrating that Campania can compete with the major national and European operators."
It's interesting that there are now twenty new electric buses, but I don't quite understand how the charging system works. I hope people use them more often to reduce pollution, but more information is needed.
