Avellino – A veritable arsenal, consisting of firearms and thousands of rounds of ammunition, was dismantled and seized by the Carabinieri of the Baiano Company, in the province of Avellino, following a series of targeted local checks to verify the legal possession of weapons and ammunition. The operation led to the charges against eleven people and the precautionary seizure of a significant quantity of material.
The investigation led to the identification and seizure of a total of eight rifles and an equal number of pistols, all illegally held. Added to this was a staggering number of bullets: approximately one thousand cartridges were stored illegally or without the proper permits.
The military's intervention wasn't limited to criminal seizures. During the investigation, law enforcement also proceeded to precautionary seize an additional fifteen rifles and seven hundred rounds of ammunition.
These weapons, although not strictly illegally possessed, were confiscated due to the owners' lack of reliability. This was a preventative and administrative measure aimed at ensuring public safety and averting potential dangers.
The eleven individuals reported, all men between the ages of 30 and 60, have been reported to the competent administrative authorities. They will likely be banned from possessing weapons and ammunition, in addition to the criminal penalties for those found to be in possession of clandestine arsenals.
The operation conducted by the Carabinieri of Baiano is part of a broader security effort, reiterating the police's focus on the use and storage of firearms , which too often cause accidents or are used in criminal contexts, even when they appear to be confined to private or sporting purposes.
