A full and resounding acquittal was issued today by the Court of Naples, Section IX, in favor of MR, 48 years old, from Benevento.
The man, represented by attorney Massimo Viscusi, was acquitted of aggravated threats and violation of family support obligations "because the charges were not substantiated." The ruling, handed down by Judge Cangiano, completely overturns the charges brought by his ex-wife.
The dispute over maintenance payments
The case revolves around a financial dispute following the couple's divorce five years ago. In April 2025, MR obtained a civil court reduction in the child support awarded to his former wife, who lived in central Naples.
The man had duly complied with the new provision, but the woman had reported him, claiming that the amount paid was less than what was due, based on her interpretation of the sentence.
This tense situation led to the incident that triggered the criminal proceedings. The prosecution alleged that MR, exasperated by the woman's financial demands, had threatened to kill her, saying, "Either you finish this or I'll kill you once and for all."
The reasons of absolution
Despite the explicit contested threat, the Court fully accepted the defense argument of attorney Viscusi, who opted for an expedited trial. The lawyer's legal arguments highlighted not only the miscalculation in the woman's claim, but also a series of "glaring inconsistencies" found in the reports and testimonies given by the ex-wife herself.
