She had taken an early morning bus to the Carabinieri station on Via Laviano to report the loss of her identity documents. A gesture of determination from an 80-year-old woman from San Benedetto, a hamlet of Caserta, who, despite her age and some ailments, had refused to give up appearing in person before the police.
After filing the report with the assistance of a sergeant, the woman stood up to leave, but just then the superintendent noticed her uncertain steps and disoriented expression. A few meters later, in the barracks yard, the elderly woman admitted she no longer remembered where she was or her way home. Even her address had escaped her.
Understanding the distress, the Carabinieri took immediate action: within minutes, they located the woman's residence and escorted her back to her husband, who welcomed his wife with relief and gratitude. He then arranged for her to be examined by a doctor. This incident highlights the fragility of seniors, but also the Carabinieri's concrete support for citizens, especially the most vulnerable, once again confirming the Carabinieri 's fundamental role as a bulwark of security and humanity in the community.
