Castel Volturno – A large bar and restaurant area inside a beach resort in Castel Volturno was seized this morning by law enforcement as part of an anti-mafia operation. This preventive measure was initiated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere and is part of an operation coordinated by the Naples Attorney General's Office.
The Caserta Flying Squad, the Caserta Financial Police Unit of the Guardia di Finanza , and the Castel Volturno Coast Guard participated jointly in the operation.
The investigation, still in its initial stages (preliminary investigations), has uncovered a scheme to conceal the true management. The formal ownership of the premises was registered to a company owned by a 24-year-old woman, originally from the province of Naples but a longtime resident of Castel Volturno.
However, investigators have ascertained that the operational and de facto management of the business was firmly in the hands of the girl's father, a 57-year-old also originally from Naples.
The father figure is a man burdened by a second-degree conviction for the crime of external complicity in mafia association. The appeal ruling recognized his ties to the extremely powerful Casalesi clan , one of the most feared criminal cartels in Campania.
This very conduct constituted a clear violation of anti-mafia legislation, specifically Article 67, which prohibits individuals convicted of certain crimes, including mafia-related crimes, from controlling commercial businesses. Using his daughter as a front man was an attempt to circumvent this prohibition.
The urgent seizure order issued by the Public Prosecutor's Office was validated yesterday, September 6, by the Preliminary Investigations Judge (GIP) of the Court of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, granting full enforcement of the operation. Investigations are continuing to determine any further connections and the business's turnover.
