Castellammare di Stabia – An attempted theft at a supermarket on Via Napoli ended with the arrest of a 45-year-old man from Castellammare di Stabia, already known to law enforcement for previous crimes, including theft.
The State Police 's intervention , which occurred late yesterday evening, prevented the theft and returned the stolen goods to their rightful owner. It all began when the Operations Room of the Castellammare di Stabia Police Station received a report of a burglar alarm that had been triggered at a local business.
Officers, conducting a patrol, rushed to the scene and caught the 45-year-old man trying to leave the supermarket with a bag full of goods. Upon seeing the officers, the man attempted a desperate escape, abandoning the bag in the street, but was quickly caught and apprehended after a brief chase.
The loot and the arrest
Inside the bag, the police found 12 wood cleaners and 10 dishwasher detergents, which had been stolen shortly before from the supermarket's warehouse. Investigations confirmed that the 45-year-old had entered the store's storage area to steal the products, likely with the intent of reselling them.
The stolen goods, worth several dozen euros, were immediately returned to the shop owner. The man, charged with aggravated theft, was arrested and taken to the police station for formalities. He is now at the disposal of the judicial authorities, awaiting a decision on his case.
