Naples – A city paralyzed, mobility collapsed, and a category of taxi drivers that feels ignored and denigrated. This is the harsh accusation leveled by the Naples Basic Taxi Drivers Association, which issued a press release denouncing the serious shortcomings in the management of non-scheduled public transportation and the indifference of the city administration.
The statement, published today, Sunday, September 7, 2025, points the finger at political choices that, according to taxi drivers, are sacrificing the daily needs of citizens in favor of "major events" and the "interests of big business."
Traffic and inconvenience: a city held hostage
The crux of the protest is the total lack of effective planning for the sector. "There is a lack of planning for non-scheduled public transport," the association thunders, emphasizing that requests for meetings sent to Mayor Manfredi and Transport Councilor Edoardo Cosenza have so far gone unanswered.
Taxi drivers point the finger at a series of critical issues that make their work increasingly difficult and the service for citizens inefficient:
Endless construction sites : Public works that drag on well beyond the expected time, paralyzing entire areas of the city.
Events and taxi stalls eliminated : The organization of large events, such as those in Piazza del Plebiscito, requires the elimination of taxi stalls. This occurs despite a report signed at the Prefecture on June 13, 2024, establishing that these stalls must remain operational to ensure public transport.
An administration “distant from the middle class”
The memo goes beyond a simple complaint about poor service and raises a deeper political criticism. Taxi drivers claim the city administration is "distant from the middle class" and too close to the "interests of big business."
A serious accusation, which brings to the forefront the debate over city management and political agenda priorities. "We demand more services for citizens and less entrepreneurial politics," the statement concludes, reiterating the need for a change of direction that puts the needs of the community at the center.
