Mondragone – Adrenaline was running high on the streets of Mondragone last night, where a heart-pounding chase ended the pursuit of two young men, a 19-year-old and a 16-year-old, both local residents, who were caught with a drug-dealing arsenal, including hard drugs and cash.
It all started when a patrol from the Carabinieri Territorial Unit, on a patrol, noticed a suspicious-looking small car, a Fiat Punto, on Via Pignatelli. The officers ordered them to stop, but the response was sudden acceleration: the car, with the two young men inside, sped off for about two kilometers, attempting to outrun the Fiat Punto along Via Caserta.
Tensions escalated when the fugitives attempted a desperate and dangerous ram attack on the car radio. This reckless act wasn't enough to free them: the Carabinieri's prompt action and maneuvering finally allowed them to stop the vehicle and immobilize the two.
The Drug Dealer's "Kit": Crack, Cocaine, and Hashish
An immediate search of the vehicle revealed the motive for the desperate maneuver: the 19-year-old and the 16-year-old were not traveling empty-handed. The officers found a veritable drug-dealing kit, already divided into doses ready for sale on the market:
7,16 grams of cocaine
5,14 grams of crack (the fearsome drug derived from cocaine)
8,60 grams of hashish
In addition to the narcotics, 230 euros in cash were seized, an amount believed to be the direct proceeds of illicit drug trafficking.
For the adult, the night ended with his immediate transfer to the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison. The minor was instead entrusted to the First Reception Center (CPA) in Naples – Colli Aminei.
What's worsening the two's situation is the suspicion of a frequent recidivism. This isn't the first time they've been targeted by law enforcement. Just a few days ago, on September 27th, they were already stopped and reported, again by the Carabinieri of Mondragone , for being found in possession of cocaine, crack, a taser (a defensive weapon often used for intimidation), and nearly €240 in cash. On that occasion, the 16-year-old's home had already been searched, leading to the seizure of additional marijuana.
Investigators are now examining the two's frequency and methodology to understand the exact extent of their drug dealing activity in the area.
It's incredible how young people can be involved in illegal activities. I hope law enforcement can do more to stop these phenomena. Parents should be more attentive to their children, but the situation is complex.
