The Torre Annunziata Prosecutor's Office has requested the dismissal of the case of Aurora Bellini, a young student from Grosseto, who died on March 18 during a school trip aboard the Cruise Bonaria ship. The 19-year-old had fallen ill while the vessel was sailing from Naples to Palermo.
According to prosecutor Nunzio Fragliasso, the autopsy confirmed that death was caused by asphyxiation due to aspiration of food. Food material was found in the oral cavity, larynx, trachea, tracheal bifurcation, main bronchi, and lungs, thus confirming the acute mechanism of suffocation.
Toxicological tests ruled out the presence of alcohol, drugs, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, or other neurodepressant drugs that could impair consciousness or natural protective reflexes, such as coughing and swallowing. The Prosecutor's Office therefore concluded that the young woman's death was not related to external factors or the fault of third parties, but to a sudden and acute pathological event.
