Naples – More than a murder, a massacre. This is how the death of Ciro Rapuano, 59, appears to have unfolded during the night between September 3rd and 4th in his home on Via Sant'Arcangelo in Baiano, in the heart of Forcella.
According to the confession he made immediately after his arrest, the one who attacked him was his wife, Lucia Salemme, 58, now imprisoned in Secondigliano on charges of aggravated homicide.
The autopsy: over a hundred stab wounds on the lifeless body
The autopsy, which lasted seven hours and concluded late this afternoon, revealed a picture of unprecedented violence. Over a hundred stab wounds ravaged the victim's body, concentrated primarily on the head, back, neck, and arms.
An inexplicable relentlessness, especially since Rapuano never had the chance to defend himself: his body was found with his hands under the pillow, a sign that he was asleep when he was shot.
It remains unclear how a small woman like Salemme was able to inflict such a high number of blows without stopping, without sustaining significant injuries and, above all, without the man putting up any resistance.
The wife's version and the unresolved issues
Lucia Salemme told investigators she was reacting to an attack by her husband. But her version isn't convincing.
The time of death, determined to be between midnight and 113:2.30 AM, does not match the call to XNUMX, which arrived only at XNUMX:XNUMX AM, when the woman reported being attacked by her husband. What happened in that thirty-minute gap? A period of time that could indicate a misdirection or contact with a third party.
The shadow of the economic motive
As Salemme's confession fades, a possible financial motive is emerging. According to the victim's relatives, approximately €400 in cash that Rapuano was keeping, the proceeds of which came from managing a well-established garage in the center of Naples, has disappeared.
The family's suspicions, particularly those of the victim's sister and niece, also focus on the victim's cohabiting daughter, who was present at the home on the night of the crime along with her mother and her 7-year-old daughter. The young woman, accused of spending heavily at luxury boutiques, is being labeled on social media as a moral accomplice to the murder.
Family divisions and unexpected witnesses
The affair has divided the family. Valentina Rapuano, the eldest daughter, has clearly distanced herself from her mother and sister and, through her lawyer, has made it known that she intends to cooperate with the judiciary. Her statements could be a turning point in the investigation coordinated by the Naples Prosecutor's Office and conducted by the Flying Squad.
The doubts that fuel the mystery
Investigators will have to answer crucial questions:
Is it credible that a single woman could have struck a man over a hundred times, even though he was asleep, without stopping and without leaving obvious traces of effort on her hands?
Why did the call to the police come only half an hour after the presumed time of death?
Who was actually present in the house and what role did the cohabiting daughter and the unwitting granddaughter witness play?
What happened to the 400 euros that disappeared from the house?
A confession that doesn't hold up
At the moment, the only certainty is Ciro Rapuano's brutal death. Lucia Salemme's confession, however, appears increasingly fragile and fragmentary. A patchwork of shadows that the Prosecutor's Office will attempt to piece together in the coming weeks, with new investigations into the woman's injuries and the possibility of additional suspects.
The Forcella mystery remains unsolved: a murder that resembles a massacre, with a tangle of domestic violence, financial suspicions, and family resentments that cast a dark shadow over a bloody tale yet to be written.
