Naples – The fight against violence and degradation in Campania's stadiums is intensifying. In the last few hours, the Naples Police Chief has issued 12 measures banning access to sporting events (DASPOs), the result of an intensive investigation conducted by the Police Headquarters' Anti-Crime Police Division.
The measures, which range in duration from one to six years, target individuals who have committed various crimes, not only within but also in the immediate vicinity of sports facilities, confirming the authorities' hard line against illegality in the world of organized fan support.
Among those receiving the Daspo orders, several episodes of violence and disturbance of public order stand out:
Brawl and Tension in Torre del Greco: A 21-year-old man was given a 5-year ban after he was involved in a violent brawl between two factions of organized Corallo fans at the "A. Liguori" stadium after the Turris-Sorrento football match on January 26.
Contempt of Authority: A 41-year-old fan will be banned from sports facilities for six years. The fine came after he was reported for contempt of a public official during the Juve Stabia-Frosinone match.
Curva Raid (Napoli-Genoa): Five additional fines, ranging in duration from one to six years, were issued to five individuals, aged between 20 and 45. All had been reported during the Napoli-Genoa match for crimes such as lighting and throwing smoke bombs, climbing over, and throwing dangerous materials onto the pitch or stands.
Pyrotechnics: The list is completed with two bans for a 38-year-old and a 25-year-old Neapolitan man, arrested and reported for possession of fireworks during the Napoli-Cagliari match.
The decision to ban these fans seems right to me, but I don't know if it's enough to stop the violence in the stadiums. Perhaps there's also a need for greater control by the authorities and more prevention to avoid such incidents from happening again.
