Naples – Carabinieri officers from the Stella Company, supported by soldiers from the Campania Regiment and local health authority personnel, conducted a high-impact operation in the Vasto neighborhood and surrounding areas, targeting several businesses and residents.
The service's performance has been severe, with numerous complaints and fines ranging from serious health and hygiene violations to the exploitation of undeclared labor, property crimes, and evasion of house arrest.
Workshop suspended: Pastry shop in trouble for poor hygiene and illegal workers
The most high-profile case occurred at a well-known pastry shop on Via Pagano. A joint inspection by the Carabinieri and the Local Health Authority (ASL) revealed an alarming situation. The laboratory was found to be in "serious non-compliance" due to hygiene and sanitation deficiencies, and was charged with violating the HACCP procedure.
The situation regarding the personnel is no less serious: out of 10 workers found on site, 4 were employed " illegally ." Two of these unemployed workers turned out to be non-EU citizens without a residence permit.
In-depth investigations are underway to determine their whereabouts on Italian soil. Following these violations, the activity has been immediately suspended, effective September 29th.
Another incident of exploitation was discovered in a restaurant on Via Arena della Sanità, where the military identified another illegal worker.
Electricity theft and tax evasion
During the inspections, several reports of common crimes were made. A 64-year-old woman was reported to the Judicial Authorities for illegally connecting her home's electrical system to an Enel infrastructure located on the street, which constituted the crime of energy theft.
Finally, a 47-year-old man under house arrest was reported for escaping: he was not present at his home when the military conducted the search.
The operation also had a significant impact on road safety. Traffic code checks led to the seizure of three vehicles for violations and the revocation of six driving licenses. The Carabinieri's action confirms their ongoing commitment to combating widespread lawlessness in an area of the city often at the center of attention for public order issues.

The Carabinieri's operation appears to be crucial for the neighborhood's safety, but there are many issues that need to be addressed. Illegal work and poor hygiene in commercial businesses are serious problems that need to be addressed urgently.
