Naples – What seemed like a routine check turned into a major drug bust. It happened overnight in the heart of Naples, on Via Sant'Antonio Abate, where State Police officers tracked down and arrested a very young suspected drug dealer, a 21-year-old Neapolitan already known to law enforcement for similar crimes.
The operation, part of the extraordinary checks organized by the Naples Police Headquarters to curb the drug trade, was conducted by officers from the Vicariate-Market Police Station together with those from the General Prevention Office.
During the search, their attention caught sight of a car carrying the young man. A seemingly routine check, however, quickly yielded results: the officers found a package containing approximately 8 grams of marijuana.
But this is where the investigation took a leap forward. That small bag, for the experienced officers, was merely a clue. The well-founded suspicion that the boy could be a key player in a larger business prompted the police to pursue it further.
From the Street to the Den: The Surprise in the Apartment
The officers decided to search the 21-year-old's home. And that's where they struck gold. Inside the house, what had perhaps been a safe haven for him turned out to be a deadly trap.
During the search , State Police officers found a significantly larger quantity of narcotics: 3,8 kilograms of marijuana and approximately 400 grams of hashish, ready to be portioned and released on the city's black market. Confirming the alleged drug dealing purpose, along with the drugs, was the discovery of a precision scale, the drug dealer's work tool.
The difference between the paltry 8 grams in the car and the kilos of drugs at home paints the picture of a presumed mid-level dealer, with careful procurement and organised logistics.
There was no escape for the 21-year-old. Taken to the police station, he was formally arrested for possession of narcotics with intent to distribute. He spent the night in jail, awaiting a judicial hearing to validate his arrest. The operation demonstrates how the strategy of widespread checks and the intuition of patrol cars is attempting to put pressure on traffickers, also affecting retail distribution networks.
