Naples – A 52-year-old Neapolitan man, already known to law enforcement for specific crimes, was arrested yesterday afternoon by State Police in the Vicaria neighborhood for an improper robbery committed at a supermarket on Via Arenaccia.
The swift intervention of officers from the Vicaria-Mercato Police Station allowed them to apprehend the perpetrator and return the stolen goods to their rightful owner. According to the reconstruction, it all began in the late afternoon, when a report of a theft from a commercial establishment reached the police station's Operations Room.
Officers, engaged in their usual patrol, immediately arrived at the scene. They caught the 52-year-old man as he was trying to quickly flee the supermarket , pursued by shouts from employees accusing him of stealing groceries.
The police stopped the man and, following a search, found the stolen goods in his possession. Subsequent investigations revealed that the 52-year-old, after stealing the goods from the shelves, had been intercepted by an anti-shoplifting officer.
He pushed an employee to the ground to ensure his escape
To ensure his escape, he didn't hesitate to push the employee to the ground, an act that aggravated his position, leading to the crime of improper robbery. The man, with a criminal record, was arrested and taken to the police station for formalities.
The stolen goods, however, were promptly returned to the supermarket owner. The case will now be examined by the judicial authorities, who will decide on further measures to be taken against the 52-year-old, while investigations continue to ascertain any other similar incidents linked to the arrested man.
