Naples – One of Naples' most iconic views, the backdrop to millions of photographs and the first welcome for those arriving from the sea, was the focus of an extraordinary cleanup operation this morning, Wednesday, September 10. Mayor Gaetano Manfredi's task force for urban decorum targeted the Molo Angioino area, the Castel Nuovo (Maschio Angioino) terraces, and the entrance to the nearby metro station.
The goal, as explained by the administration, is twofold: to protect the decorum of a symbolic space and to ensure that the city's first impression lives up to its beauty for the ever-increasing number of tourists. The operation is part of the calendar of activities planned by the Decorum Committee, coordinated by Ciro Turiello, and involved staff from the municipality's participating companies.
Today's action isn't a one-off, but a coordinated and strategic move within a broader plan. The choice of locations is no coincidence: it's one of the busiest spots in the historic center, Naples's calling card. Cleaning here means investing in the city's international image and the quality of life for residents and visitors.
The timetable indicates that this will be just the first of a series of similar initiatives. The restoration and preservation of the quality of urban spaces will not stop at the heart of the city, but are planned to extend to the outskirts as well, with the aim of ensuring a widespread and consistent service throughout the municipality.
