Naples – Tensions between the Naples city administration and the taxi industry are rising. In an open letter addressed to Mayor Gaetano Manfredi and Transport Councilor Edoardo Cosenza, the Association of Basic Taxi Drivers denounces an unsustainable situation that, they say, compromises the quality of service and urban safety.

At the heart of the controversy is the long-standing problem of taxi stalls, which, especially on weekends and in the evenings, are systematically occupied by private vehicles. This illegal practice, according to taxi drivers, prevents them from continuing to operate, creating inconvenience for passengers and increasing traffic jams.

Broken promises and the request for the ZTL

In their letter, the taxi drivers recall that the issue had already been addressed months ago during a technical meeting at the Prefecture, in the presence of the president of Municipality 1, Giovanna Mazzone.

At that time, a "formal commitment" had been made to resolve the problem promptly. "However," the letter states, "months later, nothing has changed."

For the association , the only solution to overcome the "now structural criticalities" of city traffic is the reactivation of the ZTL (Limited Traffic Zone), supported by a comprehensive traffic management plan.

A measure that, in their view, would restore order and functionality to an essential public service. The category, which has called a meeting for September 24th, is ready to mobilize to make its voice heard and demand concrete answers from an administration that, so far, appears not to have met their expectations.
