Naples – Moments of panic erupted Saturday night in Naples, in the heart of the historic center. A young tourist in her 20s was struck by a scooter while crossing the pedestrian crossing in Piazza Trieste e Trento , near the intersection with Via Nardones.
It was just after midnight and the area was still crowded with people returning from the Gigi D'Alessio concert in Piazza del Plebiscito.
According to initial reports, the motorcyclist was speeding despite the crowd. After grazing several pedestrians, he struck the girl in the leg. The impact knocked her to the ground amid screams from onlookers. The scooter rider did not stop to provide assistance, disappearing into the alleys of the Spanish Quarter.
Rescue operations and initial investigations
Municipal and State Police officers, along with 118 emergency personnel, immediately responded to the scene. The young woman was rushed to the hospital: her condition is not serious, but she remains under observation.
The images of the incident, taken by some witnesses, were sent to the Green Left Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli , who asked for the acquisition of the surveillance camera footage to identify the person responsible.
Borrelli: "It could have been a massacre."
The MP's harsh comment: "A street criminal who must be identified immediately. I wonder how anyone could run at full speed through hundreds of people just leaving a concert, risking a massacre.
With the aggravating circumstance of not even stopping to help the girl, cowardly fleeing into the alleys. All this just hours after the tragedy on Corso Umberto, where a Spanish student died on a pedestrian crossing. Walking around Naples cannot be a game of Russian roulette: these individuals must be severely punished and rendered incapable of driving again.
The citizens' complaint
A witness, who witnessed the scene and sent photos to Borrelli, recounted: "A similar incident had already occurred the day before in the same spot, fortunately without any injuries. It's a very dangerous intersection: I find it absurd that these individuals continue to run between the square and Via Nardones, heedless of the police. I can still hear that girl's screams of pain. I have two daughters, and I hope something is actually done to make the streets safer."

It's truly incredible what happened Saturday night in Naples, but it's not the first time I've heard of accidents like this. People need to be careful when crossing crosswalks, and drivers should be more responsible, especially in crowded areas.
