But certainly Umberto Russo, 33, known as "Fish", a former member of the Lo Russo clan of Miano, never imagined that one Sunday morning, while he was driving in a crowded area of families like the entrance to Via Miano del Bosco di Capodimonte, the hitmen would spring into action.
But the Camorra, when it decides to make no concessions, doesn't. And that's what happened to him too: killed this morning around 9:30. He was driving his Jeep Renegade with someone, since the rear doors of his car were found open. Probably someone who escaped the bullets and ran away.
The hitmen arrived on a motorcycle. Within seconds, the bullets ended his life. He was hit in numerous parts of his body. Hitting vital organs, he died shortly after arriving at Cardarelli Hospital.
Carabinieri from the Vomero branch were on site, along with the DDA magistrate who is coordinating the investigation. The murder occurred in front of several witnesses and under the watchful eye of numerous security cameras in the area. The footage is now being examined by investigators.
He had already escaped death in 2015
Russo, known in the crime scene as "Pesciolino," was no stranger to violent incidents: on November 22, 2015, he escaped an ambush on Via Lazio, between Miano and Secondigliano, when a hail of bullets struck him while he was with a 45-year-old friend.
According to initial reports from the Carabinieri, who are investigating the case, the preferred line of investigation is drug trafficking, given Russo's history, which includes specific convictions for crimes in this area. His name also emerged in an investigation by the Naples District Anti-Mafia Directorate, conducted by the Guardia di Finanza's GICO (Italian Financial Police), which led to a trial involving Russo.
The man, believed to be close to the Lo Russo clan , the powerful "Capitoni" gang that controlled the northern part of the city for years, operated in a fragmented criminal environment. Former boss Salvatore Lo Russo's collaboration with the justice system had led to the clan's disintegration, sparking a season of ambushes and score-settling that bloodied the streets of Naples.
